An Interview with Lynda R. Young

Today, as part of the MAKE BELIEVE Blog Tour, I am interviewing one of my antho buddies, the lovely and talented Lynda R. Young.  Her story, BIRTHRIGHT, is featured in the anthology and I have to say, it is one of my favorite. This gal has got some talent!  You can read an excerpt here.

Good day, Lynda.  Welcome to my humble blog.  Thank you for joining me all the way from the land down under.  Let’s get started, shall we?

Tell us in one sentence why we should read your short story.

Because it’s an intriguing tale with mystery, danger, and romance, about a woman who is too busy running from her life to notice she should be running for her life.

Nice play on words there.  I have to say, I wasn’t really expecting the story to pan out the way it did.  Lots of suspense and I loved the unexpected ending.  The story was intense in many respects and I wonder, can you write with lots of noise around you, or do you have to have peace and quiet?

I prefer to write in silence, but sometimes I have no choice so when it’s noisy I’ll listen to music.

I listen to music sometimes when I write, too, but the style has to match what I’m writing about.  I also have to have my cups of coffee and ice water around me when I write.  Other than the obvious pen/paper/computer, what do you always have around you when you write?

When at home,I always have water to drink and I wear my comfy cow slippers.

Oh, look at them!  🙂  I love animal slippers.  Other than explaining how important it is to keep tootsies warm while writing, what advice would you give to aspiring authors?

Write, keep writing, and don’t give up. Oh, and don’t be afraid to share your writing.

That’s great advice and one that I hear a lot in interviews.  It is so true, isn’t it?  So, are you ready to get down to the really important nitty gritty questions?  Okay, here goes the lightning round.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Chocolate. I love good quality dark chocolate. So scrummy.

When you were 12 years old, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to become an actress, lol! But it turns out I’m terrible at learning my lines. Then at 13 I discovered the joys of books and reading which in turn drew me to writing.

What is your dream cast for your short story/novel?

I wouldn’t care as long as Johnny Depp played the hero. He could play all my hero figures. He is almost as scrummy as chocolate.

Hmm, another Depp fan.  I like her even more, don’t you?  Okay, enough of this nonsense. I digress.  Reece’s Pieces or M&M’s?

Neither (um-ah!) But I don’t get Reece’s in Australia and I’d rather indulge in a special dark chocolate than M&Ms. Call me a chocolate snob! 😉

Personally, I don’t have a problem with chocolate snobs.  They’re my favorite people.  Now hand over that Australian dark chocolate.  Come on.  Don’t make me come to Australia…Lynda?  Lynda?  Oh, darn it, she took off with the chocolate.  Oh well.  But she left behind her short story in the Make Believe anthology, so why don’t you guys pick up a copy and read it.  You’ll be glad you did.
