Fire in the Woods!!!

It’s here!  It’s here!  The cover reveal for Jennifer M. Eaton’s novel, FIRE IN THE WOODS!

It’s so purdy!!!!  Makes you want to go out and buy it, huh?  Well, guess what? You can’t. Not until September 2014.  Until then you can stare at the cover and drool.

When a plane crashes in the woods near Jess’s home, the boy of her dreams falls out of the sky—literally. But David’s not here to find a girlfriend. He’s from another planet, and if Jess can’t help him get back to his ship, he’ll be stuck on Earth with nothing to look forward to but the pointy end of a dissection scalpel.

But her father runs their house like an army barracks, and with an alien on the loose, Major Dad isn’t too keen on the idea of Jess going anywhere. Ever. So how the heck is she supposed to help the sweetest, strangest, and cutest guy she’s ever met?

Hiding him in her room probably isn’t the best idea. Especially since her Dad is in charge of the squadron searching for David. That doesn’t mean she won’t do it. It just means she can’t get caught.

Helping David get home while protecting her heart—that’s gonna be the hard part. After all, she can’t really fall for a guy who’s not exactly from here.

As they race through the woods with Major Dad and most of the U.S. military one breath behind them, Jess and David grow closer than either of them anticipated. But all is not what it seems. David has a genocide-sized secret, and one betrayal later, they are both in handcuffs as alien warships are positioning themselves around the globe. Time is ticking down to Armageddon, and Jess must think fast if she’s to save the boy she cares about without sacrificing Earth—and everyone on it.

“Ghosts in the Mirror” by Joyce Mangola

My “Must Read of the Day”.  Enjoy!  This book is waaaay awesome!!!

Blurb: Sixteen-year-old Jeremy Riggs has lived his life in and out of the hospital. While the doctors are clueless as to why he lapses into comas, he is well aware of his unique ability to merge with a wandering spirit. With his own soul too weak to sustain life, it’s the only thing keeping him alive.

Waking up from a coma a year after being found at the county dump—next to the remains of the last spirit to inhabit him—Jeremy finds the newest spirit is nothing like the previous ones. It’s bent on revenge and has the will to take control over his body. With the police lining him up as a murder suspect and an ancient evil pursuing him, Jeremy must help the ghost hitching a ride in his body find eternal rest without seeing his own soul snuffed out.

He wiped his hands on his jeans to rid himself of the slimy essence from touching the symbol. The voice that crept inside his head remained silent. He stared into the shadows expecting the inky tendrils to attack at any minute, but nothing happened. Not wanting to wait until whatever spirit occupied the house changed its mind about having a Jerry snack, he clambered out between the boards of the front door.

Jeremy froze as he saw Detective McLouth standing at the bottom of the porch steps with his hands in his pockets.

“Want to tell me why you were in there, Jeremy?”

“I, uh, dropped my flashlight through the boards and went to get it. You know, a stroll on my weekend of freedom.” A weak chuckle bubbled from his lips as his pulled the hood of his sweatshirt firmly over his ears to hide tale-tell sign he was lying.

“Yeah. Weird, right? I just was curious about what the inside was like.”

“At midnight?”

Jeremy nodded enthusiastically but slowed when McLouth shook his head.

“Come on, Jeremy. Why don’t we go back to the station where it’s warmer to discuss what really happened.”

“Well, uh… holy crap!” Jeremy jumped as someone hit McLouth in the back with a shovel, sending the detective to the ground out cold. “He’s a cop! You hit a c…crap!” Jeremy saw a large woman in the light of the streetlamp, and he turned to run back into the house. She over powered him as he screamed like a girl.

“Tied” a Fire Born novel

Laney McMann‘s debut novel released this week and I am in love with the cover!

Doesn’t it give you the chills?   I am very excited for Laney and her new book and can’t wait to get my copy in the mail.  Yes, I’m a “real book” reader, not an “electronic” reader.  I love the feel of a book in my hand and holding the actual product.  I am dying to see this cover ‘in person’.  Are the colors as vibrant?  Will my desire to read it be even stronger with it in my grubby little hands?  You betcha!  I mean, the blurb has got me so enthralled, my mind is itching to start reading:

Normal people don’t believe their nightmares stalk them. They don’t fall in love with boys who don’t exist, either.

Seventeen-year-old Layla Labelle, though, is far from normal. Her delusions walk the earth. Her hallucinations hunt her, and her skin heats to a burn every time her anger flares.

Or is that all in her head?

Layla doesn’t know what to believe any more because if none of that’s true, Max MacLarnon must be an illusion, and her heart must still be broken.

No matter how much she wants to believe Max is real, doing so would mean everything else is, too. How, then, is that possible?

The answers lie in an age-old legend the supernatural aren’t prepared to reveal, and with a curse that could tear Layla and Max apart forever—if it doesn’t kill them both first.

In TIED, book one in the Fire Born trilogy, learning the truth will mean fighting an arsenal of demons, and being with Max will put Layla on a path toward her own destruction.

Just how far will Layla go to protect the one she loves?

The answer may never be far enough … away.

I can’t remember reading anything quite like this so kudos to Laney for having such an original story to tell.  I’ll let you know the good, the bad and the ugly (if there is any) after I read the story.  Right now, I’m in the middle of an ARC for The Keeper of the Lost Cities:  Exile by Shannon Messenger so stay tuned.

If you’re interested in “Tied”, you can get at any one of these spots, and I urge you to do so, even if it’s just to stare at the cover.  🙂  And make sure you pop over and say “Hi’ to Laney:
