What is trust?

What’s up, guys? David here again. I was wondering if I could ask you something.

What is trust? I mean, I’m not looking for a definition like you get out of a dictionary, but more like an understanding of how it works.

Up until I was thrust onto the path I’m on, I was very trusting of everyone. I believed my friends and my family and never thought they would ever lie to me. But I was wrong. Now, I can’t trust anyone. Everyone except Char has betrayed me. Once that happens, how can I trust anyone else ever again? How can I trust myself to know the difference when someone is lying to me or being truthful? I feel so used and, and, manipulated.
