What is trust?

What’s up, guys? David here again. I was wondering if I could ask you something.

What is trust? I mean, I’m not looking for a definition like you get out of a dictionary, but more like an understanding of how it works.

Up until I was thrust onto the path I’m on, I was very trusting of everyone. I believed my friends and my family and never thought they would ever lie to me. But I was wrong. Now, I can’t trust anyone. Everyone except Char has betrayed me. Once that happens, how can I trust anyone else ever again? How can I trust myself to know the difference when someone is lying to me or being truthful? I feel so used and, and, manipulated.

Have you ever felt that way? How do you get through it?

  1. I think it’s something you need to “feel out”. It is very hard to trust people these days, and you should be cautious. But once you fins someone you do trust, hang on for dear life. 🙂

  2. David-
It is completely human to feel betrayed and lose trust. I think it’s naive to offer trust to everyone, but you have to trust yourself to know when someone is trustworthy. Like Char. Also, some betrayals can be “justified” by the people who committed them, so you might have to see their side of things – once they can explain it – if they ever will.
Feel fortunate that you know there is someone on whom you can depend. Be the sort of person everyone can trust. You can’t control how other people act, but you can always choose to act in an honorable manner.

    1. Thank you, ma’am. It’s just really hard trusting again. It seems like everyone is in on the great lie. I know there was a good reason, I totally get that, but I feel like a game piece that can be moved around to fit someone elses needs. Family? They’re not supposed to lie to you. That’s your safe place, at least it should be.

I will try to be ‘honorable’ and forgive. I still love these people, and I know they’d do anything to save my life, but they still lied. About everything. It’s going to take some time.

Thank you for answering me. It’s nice to know that there are others who get where I’m coming from. You’re very nice.
