We all get scared when it comes time to change things up a bit. Questions like, “Is this the right thing to do?” and “What will I do if I fail?” run rampant through our minds. For me, these questions have a tendency to paralyze me into doing nothing. It may be safe back here in the background, out of the spotlight, but if I remain here, nothing will ever happen. I’d rather take the leap and spread my wings to see if I can fly, than stay in a niche where nothing ever happens and I watch the world go by.
I’ve decided when I’m done with my manuscript (beta readers, beware, it’s coming soon), I’m submitting to my dream publisher. Hell, if I’m going to dream, I’m going to dream big…and act on it. What’s the worst they can say? No??? Okay, so they say no. Then again, they may say “Yes!” It’s a 50/50 shot. What have I got to lose except an opportunity? They aren’t the only fish in the sea, but what a hell of a fishing trip if I can snag them! I have to try. I have to go for it.
What about you? Have you taken the leap of faith lately? How did it turn out?

You have exactly the right idea. If you never submit the work, you’ll never see it in print, so go for it! And if you’re going to go for it, you might as well aim high. Make a priority list and start at the top. Work your way down as you hear back from people. Keep working on new projects, so you don’t become fixated on the mailbox. I’m hoping to hear good news from you soon.

No isn’t always a door shutting. The editor who said no at Harlequin referred me to another editor who said yes. No is really scary until you accept that it’s going to happen and that it is just part of the process. 🙂

Rooting for you! (:
I’ve got a bit of a lateral leap looming (triple alliteration points!) that I’m a wee bit nervous about, but it’s true, a “no” is pretty much the worst that could happen, while a “yes” would probably be happier and scarier both at once. XD So I guess we’ll see how that goes!

I know! That “Yes” is kind of scary, isn’t it? It’s like someone telling you you just won a million dollars, only better. The intense feeling of happiness would be amazing, but then…”what if I fail?” ha ha. Too late now, right? Gotta go with it and ride the wave! Whooo Hooooo!!! Good luck to you and let us know how it goes, ok?

There were 10 at ThrillerFest who asked to see my manuscript (either a partial or full) when I was finished, so I’ll just work my way through the list. 🙂
