Don’t you just hate it when you wake up in the middle of the night and words are swirling around in your head and they won’t let you sleep? That’s what happened to me this morning, except it wasn’t a story that disturbed my slumber…it was a poem…and it had a Jabberwocky feel I couldn’t ignore.
I think it was born out of the ideas I had flitting around in my head last night regarding marketing and branding and finding the author me. When I went to bed, ideas were spinning around each other. It took me forever to get to sleep, so it didn’t shock me when I woke up before dawn with the first two stanzas repeating in my brain. I rushed to the computer to write them down, and the rest followed. Because I’m a fantasy hound, I searched for pictures to use to go along with it, and within moments found this beautiful image at NeonDragonArt.com. It really compliments the poem don’t you think? (If you click on the picture, it will be easier to read).
Do you have inspirational moments where you have to stop what you’re doing to write it down? Are you ever amazed by what comes out?
I’m amazed what comes out when I do five minute fiction. I set a timer with nothing on my mind, and just start typing. The derndest things pop out. Sometimes it’s peretty bad, but once in a while, it’s pretty good.

I do a three minute timer in the morning to jump start my brain. Coffee also helps. 🙂

Godiva Mostly Dark.
Oh! Godiva mostly dark with pomegranite in it. (Did I spell that wrong?)
On poor days (most of the time) I’ll settle for Dove Dark bites.

Wow that’s so awesome! Usually I can’t remember that much. A sentence at most will stick with me. But I’ve had those nights when the word keep circling and I have to get them out of my head. 🙂

yeah, with this it was the first two stanzas. Once I sat down to get them out of my head, the rest followed with ease. Scary, really. Almost like I was possessed.

I have those moments multiple times a day! That’s probably why I have a journal with me at all times. Sometimes I even get little epiphanies when I’m in the middle of teaching a lesson – I have to find a way to jot it down without breaking the flow of the lesson or alerting my students that their nutty teacher figured out a plot point. 😉

I love the poem and the pic you chose is absolutely perfect! I often find myself jumping out of bed when a brilliant idea comes to mind. Nice to know it’s all part of being a writer – and not a sign of going insane! lol

I’ve come to accept that all writers are a bit insane. Where else is it okay to walk around talking to the voices inside your head? 🙂

I so wish I could write poetry as lovely and evocative as this twist on the dragon-slayer tale. I woke up this morning with the opening scene and premise for a brand new book. Love it when that happens! PS, I followed you back 😉 –thank you!

Love it! I couldn’t fall asleep last night . . .I took that to mean I needed to get up and write:) My inner muse was laying on a guilt trip!

Oh, and I’m used to my muse waking me at all hours to write … I keep a journal in every room (yes, all of them, lol) – but sometimes that isn’t enough, and I’m forced to get up and come to the computer! 🙂
