Rewrites – when is enough, enough?

After what seems to be the 100th rewrite, I’m beginning to wonder if I’ll ever be happy with  my novel. When do you say enough is enough?  I’d really like to hear how you finally determine when you’re done editing and ready to take the next death-defying leap . . .  agents/editors/publishers?

  1. I have heard several published authors talk (read: complain) about this. They all said that they could very easily have kept on tweaking and polishing their work for ages and that it was difficult to know when to stop. I would be willing to bet that when you reach a point where you’re wondering if you’ve polished it well enough, that’s probably a good time to start shopping it around.
