Megan Summers closed her hand around the vial of her homemade Simply Irresistible Love Dust as she walked into band class.  Today, she was going to make the golden-haired saxophone god, Morgan Westwood, fall in love with her.

  1. Heading for her seat, she tripped on a chair leg and her vial went flying into the lap of Darren Doolittle. The lid popped off, spewing her Love Dust all over the dorkiest kid in class!

  2. She couldn’t help it; horrified and struck with images of herself and Darren lip-locked in a tangle of braces and drool, Megan shouted, “No. Not you. Anybody but you!”

  3. Megan clapped her hand over her mouth and ran from the room, tears streaming down her face, the jeers and laughter of her classmates ringing in her ears. Sabrina stared at her retreating figure and hid her wand in her jacket, triumph glittering in her dark eyes.

  4. Morgan Westwood belonged to her, or that’s what Sabrina thought…but there was someone else in the classroom…someone who had plans of their own.

  5. Elizabeth Etching flicked her wand and a trickle of love dust came toward her. She swirled her wand to turn it to her own use and then let it fly into the air covering the entire class…it was time for some fun!

  6. Except the fun didn’t quite go according to plan. Elizabeth realised her mistake the instant every head in the room turned toward her and every set of eyes glazed over with the longing of a love sick pup.

  7. But there was one other in the classroom that day, and he was not in the mood for childish games. Mr. Wesley, the impish balding teacher, pounded on his desk in an attempt to regain control of the class. A demon in human skin, his job was to find the priestess.

  8. Even as his malevolent glare scanned the room, Mr. Wesley knew she wasn’t among these mere whelps – she had been there, though, recently; he could still smell her sweet scent lingering. He grunted, angered that she had slipped from his grasp once more.

  9. Mr Wesley had been so distracted byhis failure and the unhappy fact that he would have to continue to work undercover as a highschool teacher, he had not noticed the chaos errupting around him. Girls and boys so bewitched by lust were now racing around the room, smashing into each other lips first before moving onto the next possible suitor.

  10. He had to put an end to this foolishness and he had to do it now. Calling on the strength of his master, he sent a blast of power through the room.

  11. And a blast of power it was; the stench of odious gas enveloped the room, causing all who breathed to gag and wretch in revulsion.
    “Okay, who farted!?”

  12. Morgan Westwood, called out as he fanned the air around him with his hands. “Was it you, Doolittle?”
Darren clenched his fists as all the other students began to laugh at his expense.

  13. “Stop it, all of you!” His distraught eyes scanned the room, and fell on Meagan.
Oh no, she thought, he’s still under the spell.

  14. But was he? What did anyone really know about the classroom dork?

  15. Darren put on a good show, but inside he seethed; enough was enough! Slowly he rose from his seat, dark eyes glittering with hatred as they scanned the room; he clenched his teeth as he raised his wand high above his head and shouted -

  16. “Grow up, all of you.” He sent out a spell, which filled the room with smoke, and after he quicklyvanished and rematerialized on the highest moutain peak, he took on his true form, his wings held high behind him.

  17. Green scales glimmered in the sunlight, flashing down the length of his sleek back and long, flickering tail. Darren’s emerald eyes rimmed with gold shone as he raised them towards the heavens and roared, belching crimson fire and tendrils of curled gold flame.

  18. Dragging a talon across his heavily armored stomach, Darren winced and growled, “I should never have eaten that sweet and sour pork last night.” Dismissing this petty aggravation, he launched himself into the blackening sky, sending a shower of rubble and great boulders cascading down the mountain-top, as he set off in search of his incompetent minion — the pathetic Mr. Wesley.

  19. But alas, there was another who watched the doings of the incompetent and pathetic Mr. Wesley, and this person also had the paramount job of protecting the priestess.

  20. Megan knew she was ‘different’; that her powers, while still fledgling, were becoming stronger every day. She was also aware of her royal background – something that only one other person, The Protector, knew – and it was a secret that must be closely guarded, for if the truth were known, her young life would be in mortal danger.

  21. She slipped silently through the wooded area backing the north end of the school, making her way to her special place; a small pond nestled among the trees, and climbed up the rocks to her favorite perch. But wait – someone else was here; sitting on the other side, looking rather downcast as his fingers dipped gently into the cool water, making aimless circles of ripples – Morgan!

  22. He looked up at Megan, giving her a shy smile that made her heart thump wildly. Tentatively, Megan smiled back, blushing, hopeful but suddenly unsure of herself.

  23. He was forbidden to tell her who he was, or that her life depended on his protecting her secret, so staying in the guise of the high school stud, he said, “So brat, what brings you here?”

  24. The kindness in Morgan’s eyes and his soft smile took the sting out of his words, however, and hope flared again in Megan’s breast. “This is my thinking place,” she replied, “to get away from everyone; I didn’t think anyone else ever came up here.”

  25. “As far as I know, they don’t,” Morgan replied quietly, studying Megan for just a beat too long. She noticed, and the moment seemed to slow, floating and languorous, like dust particles blown from the cover of a forgotten book.

  26. He cared for Megan, but he had to remain neutral and not let his emotions get in the way. It would be dangerous to fall in love, especially with a mortal.

  27. This contest is now closed. Thank you to all the participants. This was a lot of fun

  28. It was fun. Let me know when you’re doing another one.
